12/05/2008 The Lebanese army continues to deploy in Mount Lebanon areas after the fierce clashes eased down between opposition supporters and Progressive Socialist Party militiamen. Walid Jumblatt's PSP gunmen retreated in many areas and fled in bushes without abiding by a ceasefire agreement called for by Talal Areslan, the head of the Lebanese Democratic Party, at 6:00pm Sunday.
In the early hours of Monday, the army continued to deploy in the city of Aley after heavy fighting there.

PSP militiamen tried to launch an attack in the regions of Toumat Niha and Barouk, however opposition supporters blocked it and inflicted heavy losses in the ranks of the infiltrating unit.
In a statement, the Syrian Nationalist Socialist Party (opposition) said that the town of Sawfar, Majdalbe'na, Serahmoul, Souk el-Gharb, Aytat, Shemlan, Azouniyeh and Bshamoun, are under its total control. The statement urged PSP militiamen to lay down their arms and hand them over to the Lebanese army.

In northern Lebanon, heavy clashes resumed Monday afternoon between opposition supporters and Mustakbal militiamen in Beb el-Tabbene on the northern entrance of Tripoli. A security source said that one person was killed. Fifteen minutes later, clashes eased down. Meanwhile, ruling bloc militia cut the road leading to the Masna'a area on the border with Syria. Al-Manar correspondent said that militiamen are blocking cars and trucks from passing adding that they are forcing people to pay them money, particularly non Lebanese Arabs trying to leave the country.

In the southern city Sidon, the head of the Nasserite Popular Organization MP Ousama Saad warned the Mustakbal movement of MP Saad Hariri against sectarian instigation and provocation. Saad called on Hariri to do his duty to prevent what happened in Beirut from happening in Sidon.
