| 08/05/2008 Lebanon's general strike entered Thursday its second day amid reports that the ruling bloc is equipping itself with logistic and military reinforcements.
Indeed, information has been circulated noting that Future Movement militia deployed late night on Wednesday some 400 gunmen coming from North Lebanon into the neighborhood of Future News TV channel. Snipers, under Future militia control, were seen at the rooftops. Eyewitnesses also said that some members of the mentioned movement actually emptied large quantities of weapons in the Future Club located near the Beirut Arab University (BAU).
The Future militia is not working alone. According to witnesses, Lebanese Forces militiamen were seen with arms in the Saifi area and other regions east of the capital Beirut. These fortifications are taking place under the eyes of the internal security forces that are even facilitating the whole process, amid citizens' astonishment.
Militiamen loyal to the ruling bloc have also burst into residents of people loyal to the opposition in the Cola region in Beirut, and asked them to leave their homes. In the same context, sounds of RPG explosions were heard on Wednesday night near Beirut's Athletic City, Tarik Jdideh, Kaskas.
The situation continued to be tense on Thursday, amid obstinacy by the ruling bloc, refusal of solutions and preparations on the ground. Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah will hold a press conference in the afternoon to draw the main points of the next stage. |
