| 08/05/2008 Vice President of Higher Islamic Shiite Council Sheikh Abdul Amir Qabalan said recent decisions by the unconstitutional government of Fouad Saniora targeting the Hezbollah were aimed at exposing the resistance to the Israeli enemy, labeling them as 'acts of sedition."
Speaking to journalists after heading an exceptional meeting for the Council, Sheikh Qabalan stressed that whoever talks on behalf of Muslims should be their religious reference who adheres to the country's interests not who calls for sedition. His eminence was signaling Muftis Sheikh Mohamad Rashid Kabbani who claimed that the struggle today is between the Sunnis and Hezbollah.
"Beirut does not belong to a single group but to all Lebanese," Sheikh Qabalan emphasized, stating that those aggressing Beirut are the ones who are storing weapons funded by Arab and non-Arab states. He also reminded that Beirut has always been honored by the resistance.
The Council retorted to Saniora's unconstitutional government decisions, stressing they constitute a crime against Lebanon and its confessions. "They are part of a US-Israeli war, but this time war is political and carried out by Lebanese," the Shiite Council noted in a statement. Sheikh Qabalan warned against the repercussions of the ruling bloc's obstinacy.
The Higher Islamic Shiite Council said the only solution to end the dangerous crisis was for this government to back down from its decisions. "The unconstitutional cabinet's insistence on its decisions is a dangerous plan aimed at Lebanon," the statement read, holding "those who are driving the country towards strife" responsible for the crisis. |
