09/06/2008 British Foreign Minister David Miliband arrived in Beirut late on Sunday for a 24-hour visit. He met on Monday with Lebanon's President Michel Suleiman and Prime-Minister designate Fouad Saniora. Upon his arrival, Miliband met with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and Foreign Minister Fawzi Salloukh.

After meeting Suleiman, Miliband expected an imminent solution for the occupied Shabaa Farms, calling on Lebanon to deliver to the UN the official documents proving its ownership for the farms.

Earlier, Miliband said he was in Lebanon to show Britain's support for the Doha Accord, signed on May 21. He said he wanted to show his support for the new president, whose election was made possible by the Doha accord.

"I am very conscious that Lebanon is dependent on peace in the wider region for its own stability but also it can contribute to wider peace in the region," said Miliband.

He stressed the need to implement all UN Security Council resolutions, including resolution 1701, and said he will discuss the situation of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and "ways to solve the issue of arms inside the shantytowns."
