| 28/06/2008 A deadly blast ripped through an apartment building in the northern town of Tripoli Saturday killing one person and wounding 29, police reported.
Three people also were wounded by sniper fire from the Baal Mohsen district targeting rescuers and civilians crowded in the Tabbaneh district to help victims of the targeted building.
The blast, which echoed at 5:30 am, resulted from a 20-kilogram charge of heavy explosives attached to a timer and planted in a special lift owned by a handicapped resident of the stricken Eid building, according to a police official.
Ambulances, sirens wailing, rushed to evacuate casualties from the building, and rescuers encountered difficulties in carrying out their duties due to sniper fire targeting the streets, according to police reports. |
