Four Killed, Dozens Injured in Fierce Tripoli Clashes

09/07/2008 Four people have been killed and at least fifty others were injured in violent clashes in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli since Tuesday night, among them Lebanese Armed Forces members, a security official said.

He also noted that army troops and security forces were ordered "to increase patrols and arrest anyone who threatens the public security, even if the use of force is necessary."

Three of the dead were identified as Youssef Hussein Traboulsi, Leila Shami, who died of a heart attack after a bomb fell next to her and Palestinian national Mohammed Neeman Bahij, who was shot by a sniper in the Al-Malloule area.

So far, the wounded include Lebanese soldier Khalid Fayyad, Yahya Hawwa, Bilal Nsouh, a young man from the Habib family, Youssef Mohammed Fakhro, Samir Hassan al-Rifai, Othman Mohammed Ali al-Eeter, Samir Abdul Qadir Harb, Bahaa Abu Shaker, Tony al-Hajj, Yahya Malass, Mustafa Dib, Abdullah Aruj, Ibrahim Shami, Azzam Abdul Razzak, Sabah Mardaly, Mohammed Hajj, Mohammed Zahra, Ziad Qalamony, Abdul Qader Taleb, Mohammed Zuheir Harfouch, Ahmed Amoun, Ibrahim Iskandar, Samer Iskandar and Kannaan Saleh.

Meanwhile, the Arab Democratic Party issued a statement in which it denounced the "continuous aggressions" on the Jabal Mohsen area that resulted in the injury of a Lebanese Army soldier and three civilians.

A meeting also took place at the house of North Lebanon Mufti Sheikh Malek Shaar among local leaders, political and security officials, and Islamic authorities to discuss the deteriorating situation and reach a solution.
